Tailgate Down at Big Woody's

Bringin' the tailgate party inside... Story by Erin Murphy-Hicks.

Chesapeake - As the crowd gathered in Big Woodys, the band Tailgate Down gets ready at the front.  There is no stage, but a wooden floor serves the purpose.  Soon the music gets started loud and clear and immediately gets the attention of the various groups around the room.  There is hardly any space in the bar as the band plays upbeat country and rock.  Aaron, the lead singer, is full of energy and movement as he bounces back and forth, sways to the music, taps his foot, and interacts with the other band members.  Many popular songs are played, as their upbeat tunes continue to suck in the ever-growing crowd.

Big Woodys is located on Battlefield in Chesapeake, and it is lit brightly with a large outer deck that allows a cool breeze to flow around.  Even outside the music is heard clearly.  It becomes very apparent that Big Woodys is a popular place as both the indoor and outdoor sections becomes increasingly crowded.

Throughout the night the band moves smoothly between country songs and rock songs, as they are very talented at both.  All night long they keep the energy up.  Interaction with the audience is constant, and Aaron even gets up on the bar and sings while dancing and catching the eye of everyone in the room.

In my opinion, the best song of the night was "Purple Rain," which was sung beautifully and passionately, but there were so many other songs such as "Amarillo Sky" which are also sung wonderfully.

I have seen Tailgate Down several times, and I strongly recommend them to anyone.  If you like both country and rock, if you like to dance, and if you like to have a good time, then they are the band to see!
